Young people are full of youthful energy and creativity but often
lack opportunities to prove themselves. For three girls, that chance
came when they became young environment envoys for the United Nations
Environment Programme in 1998.
"I was once asked what I'd get from devoting my time to environmental
activities, so much that there was a time when I didn't get to go home
for weeks on end," Wimol San-um said. "Now I know the answer:
A lot." The youth was recently selected to go to Australia as an
environment envoy.
